This little doodle blog has turned into a vessel of others’ fears.
I call it “The Fear Project.”
I was motivated to begin this project after I watched this video: http://creativemornings.tumblr.com/post/13164231309/the-very-first-creativemornings-portland-hosted. The artist, Kate Bingaman-Burt, talks about bringing some guidelines and structure to her creative process.
So, I wondered how I could do that with doodling. I came up with what you see here. I knew there would be endless amounts of material out there, and fear is something I think a lot about in my own life. Participants come from everywhere—neighbors, students, colleagues, family members, people I’ve never even met. They just drop me a line (or tell me in person) about a fear they have. And then I try to visualize it in a doodling sort of way.
I’m aiming to create 90 of these fear doodles (that was the original goal I set for myself). I post three a week (for the first two weeks of the project, I posted daily, but that got to be too much. Too much fear on my mind …). I should reach this “90” milestone by the fall of this year. And then … well, we shall see.
Got a fear you’d like to share? Send it my way. I can’t promise you I’ll create a fear piece from it, but I will do my very best.

(Note: Day 1 of The Fear Project starts on Feb. 10, 2012. For the year before that, I posted all different kinds of doodling images unrelated to the subject of fear.)
